Each registered domain has no less than two Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your Internet domain to the servers of a certain web hosting provider. This way, you have both your website and your e-mails handled by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, like A and MX. The former reveals which server manages the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter indicates which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, any time you enter a domain in your browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of a different provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having separate records for the site and the emails means you can have your site and your emails with 2 different companies if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting through our company, you are going to be able to view, set up and modify any A or MX record for your domains. So long as a particular domain name has our Name Servers, you will be able to change specific records by using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or emails directed to another service provider if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our advanced tool is going to permit you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address at all. If you want to use the email services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do it with only a couple of mouse clicks through the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You may also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for any one of your domain names or subdomains is extremely easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are handled via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as simple as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't encounter any problems if you decide to direct your website or emails to some other provider while keeping the second service with our company. When necessary, you may also create additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the recommendations of the new provider.
